Informal Blog # 4: Air Umbrella

Rain, Rain, Go Away

Known as the "invisible umbrella" the new kick starter, the Air Umbrella, has raised approximately $102,000 for their new invention. This invention primarily makes the normal metal, plastic umbrella more advanced and "improved". The air umbrella is essentially a device that diverts the path of rain by using air pressure. There are also different styles of the umbrella which include a men's and women's umbrella. It is meant to be eco-friendly and be more convenient for the user. This Air Umbrella reduces the amount of plastic used for regular umbrellas. Currently this device is now on the market and can be bought for approximately $100 dollars which is much more costly compared to the other competitors. Because it costs a lot it should be more effective and practical correct? In this Air Umbrellas case it has shown to be a waste of the consumers money due to fails in design and in the thought process when making it.

One flaw that can be inferred when analyzing the design is how will the Air Umbrella affect other patrons located near the device? The amount of water being detoured off the path of the user increase the amount of rain on the peers located near them. In addition the device is powered by batteries which only last about 30 minutes. This seems personally unreliable and not worth my money. Regular umbrellas can last me a lifetime and only cost $10. Personally the umbrella located in this kick starter campaign has shown to be unreliable and ineffective. Due to this realization I would not buy it. It has great potential and can be innovated for customers needs, which shows the design can soon improve the future.

  1. Dear Monique,
Out of all the blog posts I have been going though I think this one is probably the weirdest. What really is an "Air Umbrella"? Is it just a device that shoots out air and makes the rain go in a different direction? I think if you actually explained how the umbrella worked it would have been beneficial to your post. Overall it was really good though! I like how you incorporated your thoughts on its effectiveness and the reliability of the device. I think its safe to say no one will be buying the "Air Umbrella" after reading your article.
    Sincerely,
    Cole Nofsinger

  2. I think your post was good and a little off the beaten path. It caught my eye because it was something I've never really thought about or had taken into consideration. I like how you talked about your personal reactions to the air umbrella, but I after reading your post I didn't fully understand what an air umbrella was. Other than that your post is really good and intriguing. Good job!

  3. Great Blog Monique!

I think this is an interesting topic, and it astounds me that the KickStarter has received this much funding so far. I liked how you made the connection to your own buying decisions by stating the reasons why you wouldn't buy this product. I think the description of the product was concise with the perfect amount of content. The formatting of the blog with the picture wrapping the text makes it very easy to read and visually appealing.
